Karkala / Belman, Mar 30 : What can be called as a victory to the united people's movement, much-talked 'Suvarna Karnataka Corridor' project around Belman, Nandalike and Sooda villages of Karkala taluk has been called off by the state government. The state industry minister has given a written statement to 'Bhu Santrasta Horata Samiti', an organisation formed to oppose the proposed project around three villages, said that "Very soon government will send a notification to withdraw the proposed land acquisition in three villages. Government will plan such a project in some other places in state where density of population is less."
Suhas Hedge, who led the movement spoke to Daijiworld to confirm the news, and said that "This is a victory for the people of not only three villages, but for all who those who supported the cause from all over the state and world." He thanked state goverment for considering their request, and praised the people of the region for supporting the cause irrespective of caste, creed, language or political differences.
Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary supported the movement and worked behind the people to see that land acquisition order is called back. Bhandary was instrumental in liasoning with state Goverment, specially raising the questions during last assembly session. Opposition leaders and former MLA from Karkala Sunil Kumar too joined the people's movement and helped strengthen it.
Xavier D'Mello, secretary of Horata Samiti said that, official gazette will be released within next few weeks, but the project is withdrawn and people around these villages are now heaving a sigh of relief.
It can be recalled that, 'Bhu Santrasta Horata Samiti' organized a massive protest in front of the office of deputy commissioner earlier this month urging the state administration to withdraw the de-notification order of 1,138.04 acre fertile farmlands and plantations proposed to be acquired to set up Golden Corridor Project in Belman, Nandalike and Sooda villages.
