Belman : State Govt Withdraws Land Acquisition Order for Corridor Project
Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala

Karkala / Belman, Mar 30 : What can be called as a victory to the united people's movement, much-talked 'Suvarna Karnataka Corridor' project around Belman, Nandalike and Sooda villages of Karkala taluk has been called off by the state government. The state industry minister has given a written statement to 'Bhu Santrasta Horata Samiti', an organisation formed to oppose the proposed project around three villages, said that "Very soon government will send a notification to withdraw the proposed land acquisition in three villages. Government will plan such a project in some other places in state where density of population is less."

Suhas Hedge, who led the movement spoke to Daijiworld to confirm the news, and said that "This is a victory for the people of not only three villages, but for all who those who supported the cause from all over the state and world." He thanked state goverment for considering their request, and praised the people of the region for supporting the cause irrespective of caste, creed, language or political differences.

Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary supported the movement and worked behind the people to see that land acquisition order is called back. Bhandary was instrumental in liasoning with state Goverment, specially raising the questions during last assembly session. Opposition leaders and former MLA from Karkala Sunil Kumar too joined the people's movement and helped strengthen it.

Xavier D'Mello, secretary of Horata Samiti said that, official gazette will be released within next few weeks, but the project is withdrawn and people around these villages are now heaving a sigh of relief.

It can be recalled that, 'Bhu Santrasta Horata Samiti' organized a massive protest in front of the office of deputy commissioner earlier this month urging the state administration to withdraw the de-notification order of 1,138.04 acre fertile farmlands and plantations proposed to be acquired to set up Golden Corridor Project in Belman, Nandalike and Sooda villages.

Its really good news for the people of 3 villages.
I frankly not against the development or Industrialization. but govt. should study where they can start these things. they should do these things where there is barren lands or unfit lands for agri & residence. But here exactly opposite. Govt is destroying fertile lands and vacating residents of crowded areas for the sake of Industries...? Its really worst thing to happening in the name of development. Even what is happening in Nandikoor (Thermal Power Project) is also going to b worst for agri & residents of surrounding areas....!
Then which is the safest place to live in our state..?
    God knows…..!
God bless people of our state.

Nancy, look it is because of you peoples mentality now in that area a common man cannot afford to buy small residential land even.. your hypocratic comments never comes true, stop thinking u will get more demands for the lands over there(may be u have properties)by telling the people we developed and all..with expatriates transfers, particurly christian women throwing money(without bargain...even in markets) for everything that is the reason it is difficult for common/local poor people to get the essential things @ reasonable rates in this area...just think positively!!! pl dont take on averse

People untiy is strength.. proved by protesting in right manner without any differences.
In recent days it's become a hobby of Governemnet to acquire land more than 1000 plus acres in the name of Development and Employement . Finally this land goes to big Industrailist or real estate giants for cheper price by bribing the officials to acquire land .
By the way anyone got information of what the % of Local people employed in Mangalore port trut, MRPL, MCF, BASF etc. It may be less tahn 2 %. B'coz of our youngster busy with communal mindset fighting with petty intrest and not really intrested in doing any work in good company.
Mangalorean's are fooled in the name of development by Real Estate & big Industrial houses to make easy money on Cheaper acquisition of lands by bribe ruling government agents.
If not protseted the next generation will find no land for locals and people employed in future industries will be outsiders .
God bless all the protestors of united people's movement for this VICTORY.

Govt. doesnot want to acquire land which is not at all deveoloped or there is no infra structure. Land mafia along with politicans as their God fathers or vice vesra are eying developing or developed lands like Belman, Nandalika villages. Great job by the locals. Road development for infra structure is tolerable but extinguishing full village in the name of development is ridiculous. I am proud of all leaders, locals for their wonderful achievement. Pls don’t sleep until you receive in writing by the officials with proper notification.

Dear Jossy, if land acquired for road, I do not think there will be protest of this scale. It is for industrial purpose! Why not they look at barren land! First of all there is no power for existing industries! Politicians and people with access will make lot of money with such acquired land allotment for industries.
Tanweer Ahmad, dream of job for those who lose land is a mirage. It will never happen. Most of these industries need lot of labor force! You hardly find any blue collar labor in these areas now a days! How many engineer / MBA related jobs go to locals? All to the people of Gowda politicians!!! Do we need to sacrifice our home of generation in the name of development? What kind of development. Let one Free Zone function and lets see the benefit to the land losers!

Richard, Jantra, Belman, what you want to say exactly?? Is According to you during my ancestors this area is developed and now it is not??? now transport is not easily available to you?

Ofcourse 60% efforts are of people of Abroad who are gone from here to develop these places.

And I am realistic so giving sensible comment. and I have nowhere told people who are living here rich. From the inccome what they get, they try to develop this area. SOme get from abroad and some doing agriculture. If they were Rich, may be they have settled Bangalore, Mumbai or somewhere else.

We feel pain only when our land goes, not others. So better you be realistic.

Congratulations for wining this battle. If you are united nobody can touch you. That's why politicians want divide and rule policy on basis of religion, language etc.Why they can't bring the project at barren land. Nagarjuna will destroy our Western Ghat greenery within 5 years.

Mr Jossy Tauro, ur comment may be true, but come and see once our developed Janthra areas and then you realize. Tomorrow any such government projects will be at your areas and your wealthy land will be acquired to such a pea nut value, you will be asked to leave your home then and there ASAP, your hard earned wel set paternal property will be demolished in front of your eyes then you realize. A simple suggestion to you please think and keep yourself in our place before you comment.

Dear Nancy, belman... Ok as far as protest is concerned Government withdraw their decision to safeguard the interest of locals but your comment 'These areas are developed and are developing' is rediculous ...may be u r in 20-30, if so please check with your elders how it was during 80's, I still remember those days having street lights, good roads & regular maintenace of same, affordable transports & services till late 10pm, Greeneries around....but your comments like all local people are in gulf hence makes belman, nandalike, jantra, sooda rich....be realistic

You Mr Jossy Tauro, There is logic behind what you comment. But once you visit around Belman, Jantra,Nadalike and sooda and you will come to know why they are opposing.

These areas are developed and are developing. No need to invest here. Govt should go in the interior palces where modern facilities are not available. Go and modernise those areas. And many of the People around Belman-Sooda-Nandalike, work abroad, and they have developed this area. and if Industry comes then outsiders are easily enter our place.

And by the way where will govt accomodate these people?

So I congratulate each and everyone whoever oppossed this plan. Be careful, anytime these people will come and grab the land.

If everyone oposes land aquiring then there will be no more roads build or no more any development . I agree sometiems its sad to loose our own propertys.  So far many poeple lost their lands for the development of the counrty and its for our beneifit .  If those people also opposed and govt agreed with them may be we dont have roads or elctricity or telephones.or no industries .

Congradulations...good news, but be careful. Govt has 2 ways to make u vacate the land. one- pay u for the land. Second give permission for industries to start, no money for land owners, u may not like to live in industrial area & forced to vacate or live in hell. think smart.
