Mangaluru, Jul 30: In a major development in the multi-crore fraud case involving Roshan Saldanha, the Karnataka High Court has issued an interim stay on police investigations in two high-profile cases filed against him.

The stay order applies specifically to the Rs 10 crore cheating case filed by a businessman from Bihar and another case involving Rs 1.5 crore lodged by a Mangaluru-based complainant. The court has directed that proceedings in these two cases be put on hold until further notice.

Roshan Saldanha, who is accused of cheating businessmen from across the country to the tune of several hundred crores, was taken into police custody on July 23 for interrogation. Prior to this, Mangaluru's CEN police had raided his residence on July 17 and subsequently arrested him. He was later remanded to judicial custody.

Following his arrest, a series of complaints poured in. A Maharashtra-based businessman alleged a Rs 5 crore fraud, while another complainant from Assam claimed he was duped of Rs 20 crore. A Hyderabad-based individual also filed a complaint alleging a Rs 1 crore scam.

With the scale of the fraud widening, police had sought court permission to extend Saldanha’s custodial interrogation. Meanwhile, his legal team moved the court seeking bail, but the plea has so far been denied.

At present, Saldanha remains in police custody. While proceedings in two cases have been halted by the High Court, investigations and trial continue in the remaining cases, which are yet to receive any judicial reprieve.
