Mangaluru: Rain depletes in coast as Sringeri gets 8 cm rainfall

Mangaluru, Sep 7: Since the last few days rainfall has been far less as compared to earlier period. Normally the coast gets strong rainfall during  September but now sunshine rules the day in the coast with intermittent drizzle at night.

On Sunday, September 6, some parts of the district got some rainfall. The city received a light drizzle in the morning. Most parts of the district had very little rain. Udupi district however recorded good rain coupled with thunder and lightning on Sunday.

Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have recorded a shortfall of rain this time than the average. Dakshina Kannada normally gets 3,123 mm rainfall but this time, the rain received stands at 2,519 mm, resulting in 19 percent shortfall. In Udupi district, average rainfall is 3,708 mm. The district has received 3,617 mm with a shortfall of two percent.

Sringeri received 8 cm rainfall, which was the highest in the state, with Brahmavar getting 4 cm. The meteorological department has predicted that the coastal region of the state and most parts of southern interior Karnataka and a few places in northern interior parts of the state will receive rain. This prediction  is valid till Tuesday morning.
