Mangalore, Mar 31:
The state government funding mutts and temples in crores has no solution to problem of hungry common man in its agenda. There is need to alert the government to strive for hunger- free society, said V J K Nair, leader of Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) at the political convention of the party here in Town Hall on Tuesday March 30.

Addressing the members of the party at the convention, he said that people of the state are demanding 35 kgs of rice per month for Rs 2 per kg, which has to be distributed through proper ration system. Yet government seems not interested to provide the meagre provision. It is difficult to imagine the situation of the government if it had to provide 70 kgs per month at the same rate, which is in fact the requirement, he observed.

The government requires only Rs 70 crores to 35 kgs of rice at Rs 2 per month, yet there seems a lack of will to eradicate poverty by the ruling party in the state, though similar amounts are being provided to the mutts and temples, lavishly, he added.

Placing the demands for hunger-free state, proper ration system and opposing the price rise of essential commodities, the party will hold `Jail Bharo’ on April 8 country-wide with participation of 25 lac members of the party, he said.

B Madhava, state secretariat member of the party, leaders Balakrishna Shetty,  U B Lokayya and Vasantha Achari were also present.

No suitable reply from anybody. I won't wonder if this will turn out to be a hoopla created by RSS/VHS/BD to mislead Hindus as well as stir the harmony like they did about Christians being involved with conversions.

Daiji, I submit this plea, can you look into posting an article in this regard ? Please ?

All these days Mr Venu/Pune has been talking as the care taker of funds collected by the temples. He gives his own explanation to the readers. I feel he belongs to Manuvad and trying his best to defend the free source of finance for him and his family. He doesnt want it let go that freely. Most of his comments are defending allocation of funds to temples. If we point our fingers to this, he is deeply hurt.

For communual violence, either marshal law, military rule or rule by Communists is the answer. Do we really need rule by such institutions - Every citizen of karnataka must think over it. As Nagesh nayak said, communism doesnt promote development. But my question to him do we really need development without peace and communual harmony? I would love to live in stone age with peace and harmony, rather than living in ultra modern developed society, with every day communual flare ups, where no peace and security is the order of the day. Its our taste and vision makes us violent or peaceful. Politicians are the virus in the society who promote communual violence. Unfortunately, their motive sees the light of the day by the support of some swamis and other fundamentalists. We need thorough study of all religious books and their teachings. What we see today is nothing but perverted and modified teachings which throws mud on others. All religion preaches only good things. Some verses from Quran, Geetha or bible are quoted out of contexts to justify their arguments which is sad. Ignorance in ones religious tenets leads to communual tensions. Blindly following the leaders without reasoning is the main cause of all communual tensions. All fire brand leaders/sages are to be banned from making provocative speeches. I wish the administration first ask for the text of speech, approve it and give permission to air the approved text. Objectionable text must be d. We can see peace.

Nagesh Nayak, it is senseless to argue with a senseless person. What Mr. Nair told is right. Hungry people need food Mr. Nagesh, not, the lavish Mutt, Church or Masjid. It is the tax payers money he is pumping generously to useless purposes and check how much his own money he has donated from his pocket to any Mutt. Be practical and accept the truth Mr. Nayak.

When the issue of granting public funds to temples comes up, the move is justified by certain people (for example Nagesh Nayak) because it is said that the govt. takes away temples' earnings.

Please enlighten me - do temple administrators give tax to the govt. (on the income earned) or do they hand-over complete amount received in a day as offerings ? I am curious to know because I am aware that we all give tax on our income - including churches.

If Yeddy to grant public money to temples and mutths, he also must finance uplifting of churches and mosques as well as to renovate our houses because like temples, we too are tax-payers. Anybody care to explain ?

I fully agree with Mr. Nagesh Nayak, When government is acquiring crores from the temples(trusts) no one questions. Moreover Churchs & Mosques are ZERO contributors to government's fund. More over CPI-M is a slow poison for India's growth. Jai Hindh

The present government spending in crores of money for the renovetion of temple, mutt not for the churches or musjid which is utterly against, instead of feeding for poover and hunger. When the election comes nearer approching like a slum dog these politician.
