Kundapur: MP lays foundation stone for development works at Sowkoor

Kundapur, Sep 9: "When Byndoor was carved out of Kundapur and made into a separate taluk, it suffered from lack of basic infrastructure. In phases, we have been developing this taluk. A proposal to execute an 11-km cable car project from Kollur to Kodachadri is under consideration. This will help create new jobs and develop the tourism sector. Sowkoor lift irrigation project worth Rs 75 crore has been started. The Siddapur lift irrigation project will be executed as soon as possible," said MP representing Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency, B Y Raghavendra.

Raghavendra was speaking at a programme held at the hall of Sowkoor temple in the taluk on Tuesday September 8 after laying the foundation stone for development works amounting to two crore rupees sanctioned by Varahi irrigation project.

Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty, speaking on the occasion, said that funds have been released for Sowkoor lift irrigation project and road works worth one crore rupees have been taken up at Kudru in Sowkoor. He said that a good amount of grant has been received for Gulady gram panchayat. "The MP will be releasing grant for executing drinking water s scheme worth Rs 5.5 crore at Gulvady Kudru," he explained.

BJP Byndoor Mandal president Deepak Kumar Shetty, general secretary Prakash Poojary Jeddu, Balachandra Bhat, chief minister's personal secretary Rajappa, deputy secretary to the chief minister Ravi, people managing the Sowkoor temple, priests and people's representatives were present.

Raghuram Shetty compered the programme. Ananth Adiga proposed the vote of thanks. Before laying the foundation, the MP offered a special puja at Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple, Sowkoor.
