Mangalore, Apr 1: Maundy Thursday was observed with religious fervour in various churches across the diocese on the evening of Thursday April 1.

Maundy Thursday, also called Holy Thursday, is the beginning of the three-day celebration of Easter, which signifies Triduum, remembering the last supper, the crucifixion and death of Jesus, and resurrection to new life.

Maundy Thursday commemorates the last supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles and the clergy celebrated the Holy Mass at various churches in the city.

It was on this day that Jesus took bread and wine and shared them with his disciples, and the practice continues.  During the last supper, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, which reminds Christians of the virtues of humility, sharing, and love towards fellow men.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza celebrated the Holy Mass at Rosario Cathedral, here on Thursday evening along with many priests.

A large number of faithful attended the liturgical service on Maundy Thursday evening despite the humidity.  The diocese has a vibrant Catholic community that has been fostered by the sustained Christian faith of many generations of ancestors.

Maundy Thursday is an important Day in the lives and history of Christians and more particularly The Catholics. Two important events took place on this day. The Institution of priesthood was initiated and then of course Jesus blessed The Bread and Wine and changed the same into His Body and Blood. One significant scene is the washing of the feet by Jesus to indicate humility and service and The Lord asks us through the disciples to do the same.

Even though I am a catholic I have respect for every religion and respect people of any and all segments. Let us therefore live in brotherhood and love our neighbour.

A VERY HAPPY EASTER TO ALL THOSE WHO READ THIS COMMENT.

I want to thank to Daiji for all the wonderful photographs of Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza celebrating the Holy Mass at Cathedral and all our dear brothers and sisters attending the Holy Mass. What a great message God has given us on this day to be humble towards each other, to take care of each other. Did he just dictate, No, he himself washed the feet of his Apostles and showed us how to do it.
Let us shower God with tons of thanks for choosing us to be his dear children. He knows we have tough task ahead of us. Let us stay strong in our faith. We have Jesus to guide us through. He’s holding us close to his loving heart. Let us love each other & forgive each other’s faults as God forgives our sins. He protects all his people.
