Udupi: Woman Dies, Husband Seriously Injured in Road Accident

Udupi, Apr 2: In an accident that occurred near Lord Lakshmi Venkataramana Temple of Puttur near here on national highway 17 on the night of Thursday April 1, Usha Acharya (48), wife of Damodar Acharya, lost her life.

Usha was riding on the pillion of a two-wheeler her husband was driving. The two-wheeler was entering national highway 17, when a jeep belonging to the excise department knocked it down, eye witnesses said. Usha, who was critically injured, was immediately taken to Manipal Hospital, but she did not respond to treatments given to revive her, police sources revealed. Damodar Acharya, who also was seriously injured, is undergoing treatment at the above hospital. The two-wheeler was crushed in the accident.

The jeep was moving towards the town from Santekatte, while the couple was to visit Ambagilu near here, the locals said.
