The Muslims of the Coast of Coromandel (Madras) is called Labbais, Coast of Malabar (Kerala) is called Maplas/Biarys, Coast of Konkan (South & North of Goa) is called Batkalis & Kokkanis and Coast of Kutch (Gujarat) is called Kutchis. They are all the descendents of Arab traders and not invaders. They always speak the local languages like Tamil, Malayalam, Konkani, Kokkani and Kutchi respectively.The local Hindus were so impressed with the hard work, values and trading expertise of these Muslims that the local Hindus were ready to give their daughters in marriage to the Arab traders. The Vijaynagar Empire trusted the surety of Muslim traders instead of local Rajas for their tax collection outstanding to the empire.
