Mangaluru, Sep 15: Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday September 15, former Congress MLA, Mohiuddin Bava, accused the current MLA representing Mangaluru (north) constituency of failing to stop unauthorized sand extraction that he said is blatantly happening at places like Bykampady, Tannirbavi, Nair Kudri, Meenakaliya, Adyar Patil, Adyapady and other places. He claimed that the MLA is aware of all the irregularities but has failed in containing them.
Bava said that recently, an effort to construct a house without authorization had been made on government land at Pachanady and the MLA, who knew about it, had failed to act. He claimed that his party and the locals succeeded in stopping the illegal construction.
The former MLA said that the current MLA has not been attending to any development work. He said that in the past, drinking water was released in Pachanady Santosh Nagar area on a daily basis but now, drinking water is not being made available at many places. He said that the MLA and corporators have not been responding to the problems faced by the people.
Bava said that because of the economic slump, many of the industries in Bykampady have been closed down and thousands have become jobless. Even though the people are finding it very hard even to eke out a living, the MLA has owned discreet silence in the matter. He accused the government and the said MLA of having failed on all fronts as a result of which he said the lives of the people have become unbearable. He urged the district administration to take strict steps to crush the sand mafia.
