Bengaluru, Sep 22: National Investigation Agency (NIA) has started its own investigation relating to the KG Halli and DJ Halli riots here. It is gathered that a team of the agency led by a senior lady officer visited DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations on September 20 and 21, and held detailed discussions with senior police officials for about two hours.
The team is understood to have enquired about the backgrounds of the people accused of torching the residence of MLA, Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy, personal details and backgrounds of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) members who have been arrested in this connection, and also about Samiuddin who has been arrested on the charge of being in contact with the accused in Rudresh murder case. Sources added that they also spoke to Central Crime Branch senior officials and gathered information.
It is said that the NIA also is collecting mobile numbers and call details of SDPI workers to find out whether they have any connection with terrorist organization members.
It is said that the team might also question former city mayor, Sampath Raj, name of whom along with some other corporators were heard in the riot case. Sampath Raj who is suffering from coronavirus infection is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital here.
