Delhi Zoo celebrates World Rhino Day


New Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS): The National Zoological Park, New Delhi, celebrated World Rhino Day on Tuesday by creating awareness about the loss of habitat, poaching, climate change and conservation of species.

On this occasion a 'Keeper's Talk' event was inaugurated by Ramesh Kumar Pandey, Director, NZP, in front of the rhinoceros enclosure at the Delhi Zoo.

Also, rhino keepers shared their thoughts and experiences with the zoo staff.

"The Delhi zoo has just two rhinos right now, both females. They have been named Maheshvari and her off-spring Anuja," said Ramesh Kumar Pandey, Director, NZP.

Pandey also told the staff how they can play a key role in the conservation and management of the zoo.

Dr. Abhijit Bhawal, Veterinary Officer, Riaz Ahmad Khan, Curator (Edn.) and Dr. Manoj Kumar, Biological Assistant, NZP also participated in the discussion.

An online competition for school students was also organised in categories such as painting and poster-making, on the occasion.
