Udupi, Sep 23: “There is large scale destruction to public property in several districts including Udupi in the state due to the recent heavy rain and floods.
The unexpected floods were responsible for several problems for ordinary people. Furniture and electronic gadgets have spoiled due to inability to shift them immediately. Farmers’s pump sets are spoiled in several places. The revenue department is collecting documents of damaged property at the panchayat level. As they are refusing to accept documents relating to spoilt pump sets, obtaining compensation for them has become a distant dream. The concerned officials and people representatives need to sort out the confusion. They should rush to the rescue of farmers who are facing hardships due to the floods,” stated Karnataka Pradesh Kisan Congress state secretary Royce Mervin Fernandes.
“The governments at the centre and the state are adopting anti-farmer policies creating problems for them. Farmers have incurred several thousand rupees worth loss due to recent floods. Farmers were unable to find solutions during heavy rains. In the circumstances the state government should join the local administration and provide highest compensation to the farmers,” he urged.
