Udupi, Sep 23: The deputy commissioner, G Jagadeesha said that the contribution of the civic workers in keeping the city clean is immense. He addressed a gathering after inaugurating Civic Workers' Day celebrations at Ajjarkad mini auditorium on Wednesday.
“Udupi district is in the ninth position in cleanliness in the state and there is the hope of bringing it to the third position next year. The civic workers have come forward boldly to conduct the last rites of COVID victims. The civic workers should give importance to their health taking precautions such as washing hands, mask etc,” he said.
“Houses in Udupi were inundated due to the heavy rain in the district during the last two days. There was no loss of life due to the service-minded work by people's representatives, district administration, local body office bearers and volunteers."
An appeal consisting of the various demands of the civic workers was handed over to the deputy commissioner. The civic workers who extended excellent service were honoured.
The municipal council commissioner Anand Kallolikar, assistant executive engineer Mohan Raj, health inspector Karunaker and others were present.
