Bengaluru, Sep 24: A report prepared by Anwar Manippady about the embezzlement of Wakf properties by the high and the mighty, was finally tabled in the state assembly on Wednesday, September 23.
The report, prepared by the then chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission, Anwar Manippady when he was heading the commission, had given rise to a lot of speculation and apprehension in the state.
Manippady had submitted the report in 2012 March when the BJP was ruling. The special report claims that influential politicians had encroached on Wakf property with the connivance of officials. As per an assessment, the assets so usurped amounted to several thousands of crore rupees.
The report mentions about Wakf properties having been misused or sold off without authorization by the late Jaffer Shariff, former minister Qamarul Islam, former MP Mallikarjun Kharge, MLA Kaneez Fatima, former MPs, Iqbal Ahmed Saradagi, Narasing Rao Sooryavamshi, C M Ibrahim, Iqbal Ansari, and N A Haris among others.
Manippady had taken the issue to the high court and the Supreme Court as no action was taken on the report. In February 2019, the Supreme Court had ordered to table the report in the legislature. Now the report has been placed before the legislature, and henceforth it will be a public document.
Anwar Manippady said that he had provided documentary proof for the things mentioned in the report and demanded action against those whose names are mentioned in the report.
