Udupi, Sep 24: CITU Udupi district committee staged ‘DC Office Chalo’ protests urging for compensation for the poor that faced problems due to Covid-19 lockdown and to fulfill the demands of the labourers.
CITU Udupi committee president K Shankar addressing the protesters near deputy commissioner’s office, Manipal said that the wealth in the country does not belong to BJP. “Multinational companies are trying to loot the wealth in the country. Instead of forming laws that are pro farmers and pro labourers, the existing ones are being removed. Instead of providing facilities already mentioned in the law for farm labourers during an epidemic, government is scrapping it off. The current government had come to power by making false slogans in favour of workers. The government will cancel all the facilities of workers within the next three years and make the workers the slaves of the employers,” he said.
“Workers should be paid complete wages for the duration the lockdown was in force. Families that do not reach the limit of taxable income should be paid at the rate of Rs 7,500 per month for the next six months. The public health system should be strengthened. New Education Policy -2020 should be removed. Welfare boards should be formed for fishermen and fishing workers,” urged the CITU to the government.
Mahabala Vaderahobali Shashidhar Golla, CITU treasurer; H Narasimha Rao, secretary, Balakrishna Shetty, Sureshadha Kallagara Kaviraj and others were present. Udupi additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu accepted the appeal of the protesters on behalf of the government.
