Udupi, Sep 26: The city of Udupi is a renowned tourist place as it has the famous Sri Krishna temple. In addition, the city is known for its banking, education and cultural contribution in the development of the state. It is also the second-highest taxpayer after Bengaluru.

We all know the strength of a well-managed organization. For achievements and to resolve issues, a strong forum is an organization. With these thoughts as the motto, like-minded merchants of the district established the Udupi district Merchants' association seven years ago.

Many people are facing hardships due to the incessant rains that battered the city a few days ago. Many houses and shops were submerged in water due to which residents and merchants suffered huge losses. A team of Udupi district Merchants' association visited the traders of Kalsanka and Badagupete in the city, who suffered maximum during the recent rains and instilled confidence in them.

The merchants and traders, who are already facing financial hardships due to coronavirus pandemic, have incurred crore of losses due to the recent rains and flood that created havoc in the city. The Merchants' association met DC Jagadeesha and submitted an appeal to be sent to CM Yediyurappa in which the association has requested for maximum relief to the affected traders of the city to be given by the Natural Disaster relief fund.

Walter Saldanha, president of Udupi district merchants' welfare forum, B K Yashwant, vice president, Divakar Sanil, Anand Karnad, secretary, Donald Saldanha, joint secretary, Maxim Saldanha, treasurer and members Dolphy Victor Lewis, M Narendra Pai and M Ganesh Kini were present.
