Chitradurga, Sep 28: A number of items which were stolen from Lord Vijaya Veerabhadraswamy temple at Nayakanahatti in the district were found to have reappeared at the temple on Sunday, September 27 morning.
The temple here is ancient. It is said that the stone idol of the Lord had been gifted by the Vijayanagara kings. For renovating the temple, the idol as well as its face mask, lamps, sword, pedestal, bell, footwear etc which are very ancient, had been kept in a separate room. Unidentified thieves had stolen all the items except the idol about four months back. A complaint in this connection had been lodged in the police station.
In the early morning of Sunday, the thieves who had stolen these items returned the items by placing them back in the temple in front of the idol. The thieves also lit two lamps and performed puja of the idol before leaving. This surprising development came to the notice of the priest when he reached the temple to perform the puja.
