Karkala, Sep 28: The state High Court has stayed investigation by the police with respect to a case registered in the town police station here in which a journalist has been accused of obstructing a teacher from discharging duty.
A case had been registered against the journalist, Sampath Nayak, relating a news item which had claimed that in violation of government order, classes were held in the high school section of Karkala government PU college on May 22 when section 144 relating to coronavirus pandemic was in force.
Headmaster Muraleedhar Prabhu had filed a complaint in the town police station here on May 23, alleging obstruction of duty. Sampath had approached the state high court seeking to quash the complaint. Judge of the high court Sreenivas Harish Kumar, who heard the petition on September 22 stayed the probe in relation to the said complaint.
Advocate Pavan Chandra Shetty H presented arguments on behalf of the journalist.
