Kasargod, Sep 28: Over 122 people were reported to have contracted the coronavirus infection on Monday. With this spike, the total number of people infected in the district has crossed 10,000. The infection has been confirmed in 10,013 people and 2,277 among them are being treated. Meanwhile, 7,657 people have recovered. The number of people who have succumbed to the infection is 79. As per data, 4,871 people have been infected from September 1to September 28.
Among the infected, 701 had arrived from abroad and 535 from other states. 114 among those who are infected on Monday were infected from contact. Six among them had arrived from outside the state and two from outside the country. 91 have recovered and 4,678 are under observation.
The first positive infection in Kasargod was detected on February 3. It was the third case of infection in the country. The district was completely free from the virus at the beginning of May but found an increase in positive cases during the days that followed.
State government likely considering a lockdown
Kerala government is thinking over imposing lockdown again if the number of infected patients rises further. The final decision will be announced in a day or two. It is decided to take action against proprietors if social distancing is not maintained in shops and shopping complexes. Government has urged the people to follow coronavirus regulations. Further, the number of customers allowed must be as per the area of the shops. The state government has directed that only a maximum of 50 people are permitted during weddings and 20 during funerals. The government also decided to raise the amount of fine to be paid for not wearing masks.
