Mumbai, Apr 13: ‘Konkani Daiz Camp’, organized under the aegis of the Maharashtra Konkan Association, Konkani Abhimani Sangh–Mumbai, and Maharashtra Konkani Sangeet Academy, was inaugurated in the metro on Monday April 12.
Francis Fernandes Cascia, veteran Konkani stage artiste and founder of Frank Productions Mumbai, inaugurated the camp at St Pius Seminary, Goregaon (East), on Monday morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Cascia said that only grit and will power can lead an individual to greater success.
“Hard work and a burning desire to achieve a set goal will derive the desired result. Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mangalore-based Mandd Sobhann, has proved this with his dedicated service in promoting Konkani and its distinct folklore through many years of hard work. He has inspired many Konkans to join in the mission of promoting Konkani worldwide”, he added.
Eric Ozario of Mandd Sobhann, that has made an entry into the Guinness Book of Records, by non-stop singing of Konkani songs in 2007, said that only studies will not make a perfect individual.
“The cultural hierarchy, importance of mother tongue Konkani, discipline, and practicing Konkan folklore are essential to lead a balanced and meaningful life”, he said.
Suzanne L Coelho, co-founder of ‘Divvo’, Konkani illustrated weekly, Lawrence D’Souza Kamani, convener, Maharastra Konkan Association, and veteran teacher Benedicta B Rebello were the guests of honour.
Mandd Sobhann team consisting of Ivan D’Silva, Anil Spionza, and Dilon Kelderia, will conduct the camp and provide training in drama, dance, and music, respectively.
Maharashtra Konkan Association president Walter D’Souza Jerimeri welcomed the gathering.
Celine D’Souza of Konkani Abhimani Sangh Mumbai honoured the guests’ with flower bouquets. Maharashtra Konkani Sangeet Academy convener Leo Fernandes compered the programme.
Association honorary chief secretary Vincent Castelino proposed the vote of thanks.
