Bangalore: State Government Opposes KMC Derecognition Proposal in HC

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Apr 16: The state government told the state High Court on Thursday April 15 that the students of the state will face injustice if the central government concurs with the recommendation of the Medical Council of India to withdraw the recognition accorded to Kasturba Medical College in Manipal and Mangalore. Medical Council of India had recommended for derecognizing these colleges for lack of teaching and hospital infrastructure as compared to the students intake.

“85 students of the state have been studying in these medical colleges. If the recommendations of Medical Council of India are accepted, these students will be in deep crisis. It is difficult to shift them to other institutions at this stage. As such, withdrawal of recognitions to these colleges would be improper and unjustified,” the state government said.

These submissions were made before the High Court, which is hearing a writ petition filed by Manipal University, alleging that the recommendations of the council were illegal in nature.

The number of medical seats in the medical college of the university in Manipal had been scaled down to 150 from the previous 250. The petitioner says that this recommendation results in injustice for the students from the state. The division bench comprising Justice N Kumar and Justice Govindarajulu, which is hearing the writ petition, adjourned the hearing after asking the central government to place before it all the documents pertaining to the dispute.

It is no doubt that overseas studens are charged fees which may look exorbitant to us but it is not high for them. And you can't expect a better education anywhere in india except few places. Since it is private college so it is understood that money is needed for running such a mammoth university.

I am a KMC student and the training given at KMC is exceptional.I am sure the decision by IMC is politically motivated. I think politicians should keep out of education
