Court grants stay on FIR against Oyo Hotels in Punjab

Chandigarh, Oct 6 (IANS): The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted a stay on the first information report (FIR) against Oyo Hotels and Homes Private Ltd and Weddingz.in for alleged fraud and conspiracy.

The court has granted a stay order against the FIR filed by Chandigarh-based businessman Vikas Gupta in Derra Bassi town in Punjab on the plea of Oyo Hotels.

The court was of the prima facie opinion that the dispute was civil in nature and that there was no involvement of any criminal offence, a spokesperson for OYO said.

An FIR was registered last month against Ritesh Agarwal, founder and CEO of Oyo Hotels and Homes Private Ltd (OHHPL) and Sandeep Lodha, CEO of OHHPL's brand Weddingz.in.

All proceedings in the FIR, including the notices issued under 41-A (issued by police) have been stayed by the court, the spokesperson said in a statement.

The high court after hearing OYOs' submissions was of the prima facie opinion that the dispute was civil in nature and the FIR was in gross abuse of the process of law.
