IPL Cricket : Chief Minister Urges BCCI Not to Shift Bangalore Matches

Bangalore, Apr, 18 (DHNS): Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday appealed to the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) not to shift the semi-final matches of IPL away from Bangalore.

Adequate security would be provided for the matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Chief Minister said. The BCCI shifted the matches, originally scueduled on April 21 and 22, out of Bangalore in the light of the some explosive devices exploding on Saturday, and two more being found in the City on Sunday.

“We are ready to provide full and adequate security for both the days of the semi-final," he told the media. He stated it was a "matter of prestige and pride" for the State that the games be held in a secure environment.

He rubbished BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla's statement on Sunday afternoon citing City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari stating Bangalore police inability to provide adequate security.

"The statement is far from the truth. The Police Commissioner has reviewed the entire situation and has assured that adequate security is and will be provided to the IPL games," he said.

The Chief Minister stated that there was no need to panic as the explosions were "minor" in nature. Asked if there was any intelligence failure or laxity on part of the City police, Yeddyurappa threw his full support behind the Police and State Intelligence.

Kudos to police

“Perhaps Karnataka Intelligence department is the most efficient in the entire country. They have been receiving and giving out alerts much before any untoward incidents were to occur,” he said.

As for police, Yeddyurappa said that instead of blaming the City police for laxity, they need to be appreciated for ensuring that the IPL game was held smoothly and providing a "great cricketing experience" for the people inside the stadium.

The CM further added that as part of the security cover for the scheduled IPL semi-final matches in the City, the Bangalore City police will be given complete authority to cover the entire Chinnaswamy stadium, outside and inside on the field during the games.

This apart, on the dates scheduled for the semi-final adequate police protection will be provided at the Chinnaswamy stadium, Vidhana Soudha, KempeGowda bus terminus and other important locations in the City.

“As far as terror links are concerned in relation to yesterday's explosion, we have not received any such information,” he added.

“We will take appropriate action against those who want to disrupt the communal harmony and peace in the City. Those behind the explosions will dealt with suitably,” he said.

Our CRYING CHIEF MINISTER, is now shamelessly, pleading for IPL not to be shifted, he should have resigned, where is the BJP central leadership now hiding, if it was a non BJP govt. they would have only shouted in top of their voice for the head of the CM, now every one is quite, such a Shamefull event in the history of the state, it was totally security lapse from the police and the Govt. there is no second word, such a easy way the bombs have been planted, and knowing that a big event is going to take place nothing was done, and to add salt to the situation, there are just saying all is well, as if they have shown a movie trailor and the picture is yet to come in form of the semi finals, they should dig a hole on the ground and bury their head in shame, then again what can we expect, from a CRYING CHIEF MINISTER, and a lazy Home Minister, nothing, only statements, and BJP is good at it, no performance only talk, that is what is going on

Roshan, unfortunately there are only anti-BJP comments, so the supporters of BJP can only defend it. No one makes anti-Congress comments as it is not in the nature of BJP supporters to do that. Thats why we call you pseudo.

Its quite funny to read BJP supporters comments. When someone questions them on facts they run to gossips. When someone questions with present, they run to history. When someone questions them on history, they run to future. Ultimately, getting caught in every act. I really wonder whether they have any stand as Indian citizens apart from their party politics. If it is indian citizen, the prime concern is corruption, religious tolerence and unity, justice system, ecological conditions, poverty, rich and poor divide, so on. Looking at the issues BJP supporter pickup, one can easily arrive at conclusion this is never going to be the party it once wanted to be by Vajpayee.

    Nageshmamu,

Its wrong to beat women and nuns who were protesting against church attack.

Every body has right to protest, no matter who is in power.

Power comes and go, its important what good or bad one did during that period.

I am closely following SPs of Mangalore since emergency days, RS Chopra,1975 till Dr S Rao present SP.

There were many good, bad and ugly guys , however i found only two guys "Nalayaks"

1.Sathish Kumar of Church attack fame.

2.Seemanth Kumar Singh, who was Bellary SP till recently, who was behaving like stooge of Mr R natha Rai while SP of DK.

By seeing the end results of shifting IPL matches out of Bangalore, I strongly feel, some vested political parties have master minded the bombs implantation at the stadiuu, who are very keen to malign the ruling govt. Its very sad. State and national interest should be priority. Needless to say, jealousy and envy are the factors behind these bombs. But opportunists are making use of this incident to malign some community and groups. Thats why I called for clear, clever and transperent investigation into the incident. If any political party or politician is involved, all of us must boycot this party. Karnataka comes first then the party.

Yeddi has utterly failed in maintaining law and order of the state. Security is at stake, its a shame.

Home Minister Acharya only talks but no actions.

Yeddi says he is ready to provide adequate security now.. means did he ignore earlier.

A complete security lapse and lackasdical approach by BJP Govt has spoilt the name of Bangalore.

We Indians have always been reactive and not proactive. The state police was in deep slumber and now they are barking left and right, no use. Damage has already been done. Shame on you yeddy and achari, if you cannot provide security in the heart of the capital, how safe are the subjects elsewhere. Any input from NAGESH MAMU.

It is quite suspicious why the BCCI has moved quick to shift the match from bangalore which should one would imagine be a logistical nightmare.....and in contrast take their own time to meet to discuss the IPL scandal and Modi.....to the police and Karnataka govt. you should investigate who planted those crude bombs and why?....any one in the public could take a guess.
My suggestion to the Government to regulate the sport is to float IPL shares 100% to the common man and let the wealth be shared outside the present few.

State Home Minister is sleeping along with state police. It is ridiculous that the matches had to be shifted due to safety concern. With international players and Indian cricket legends playing IPL, shows States incabability to provide adequate security for the event. If they can't provide security at the heart of capital where else then? Shame on CM Yuddi and HM Achari.

It is good that matches have been shifted to bombay. who knows, god forbid on the day of semi finals if any blast would have taken place then karnataka would have got a bad name rather than now. it is better than complaining later. prevention is better than cure.Mr.Yeddy instead of sitting and supporting the police dept. try to find out the root cause for this.

    Sunil, Mangalore/Dubai,

    I absolutely agree with you.

I dont like Congress and its leaders, but till now i dont know why should BJP and Police did this, by God if i was HM of Karnataka i would have suspended then SP(Sathish Kumar)) on the spot pending inquiry, I still remember VS Acharyas interview sort of defending this and equating this to so called conversion.

Its sad we have two choices both are bad one is Corrupt and other is Communal, honestly I dont know to whom to choose, i am happy that i dont live in India any more....
