Udupi, Apr 19: A motorcyclist died on NH 17 at Kaup–Koppalangady, following a head-on collision with a Maruti Swift car at about 11.30 pm on Sunday April 18. 

The deceased has been identified as 46-year-old Yekanat Shetty, a resident of Bramavar, who worked as a manager in a bar at Mulky.  

Yekanat was riding home after finishing duty when the accident occurred. The car was headed towards Mangalore.

As a result of the impact, the motorcycle and the rider were thrown a distance away from the highway.  

Local residents rushed to the spot and offered first aid to the fatally wounded motorcyclist and called ‘Arogya Kavacha’, the state ambulance service.  

The ambulance carried the wounded motorcyclist to a private hospital where the attending doctors pronounced him dead.  

Kaup police recovered the Maruti Swift car involved in the fatal accident and registered a case against the driver of the car.
