New Delhi, Oct 13: Because of the closure of schools for the last few months on account of the coronavirus-affected situation, the country as a whole is likely to lose $400 billion (Rs 29.34 lac crore) in the form of future incomes, a report of the World Bank stated.

As per the current calculations, south Asian countries will suffer a loss of $622 billion (Rs 45.63 lac crore). If the crisis deepens, the loss may escalate to $880 billion (Rs 64.57 lac crore) as per current calculations. Most of the losses will happen in India, and most of the countries are losing a major portion of their GDP, the report mentioned.

Because of coronavirus-induced adversities, about 39 crore children from south Asian schools have remained away from schools. About 55 lac children are likely to desert their schools. It will have a direct impact on the productivity of one generation of the people, the World Bank stated. The report also warns that because children stayed away from schools for over five months, their studies on different subjects will get adversely affected.
