Mehbooba Mufti released from detention after over a year

New Delhi/Srinagar, Oct 13 (IANS): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday revoked Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Muftis Public Safety Act (PSA) under which she was detained in Kashmir for over last one year.

The Home Department of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Secretariat in its letter, accessed exclusively by IANS, said that it had revoked the detention with immediate effect "in exercise of powers conferred under Section 19 (1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act 1978".

Dozens of politicians of PDP, National Conference (NC) and other political parties of Kashmir were detained by the Central government when it reorganised the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh -- on August 5 last year.

The reorganisation led to the revocation of Article 370 which earlier granted special status to J&K in the Indian Constitution. The politicians had been detained in view of their provocative and inflammatory statements and threats of resorting to violence if Article 370 was abrogated.

Soon after the government issued the order revoking the PSA on Tuesday, J&K PDP tweeted that Mehbooba Mufti would be addressing a press conference on October 16.

Former Chief Minister and Mehbooba's opponent Omar Abdullah welcomed her release from detention, tweeting, "I am pleased to hear that Mehbooba Mufti Sahiba has been released after more than a year in detention. Her continued detention was a travesty and was against the basic tenets of democracy. Welcome out Mehbooba."

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah was released after nearly eight months in March this year. His father and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was released just two weeks before him.

Art.370 already abrogated. Yes some of them want to restore it and bring back chaos that lasted for over 25 years.

If BJP was so confident about improving conditions in J&K through abrogation of Art. 370, why did they keep all non-BJP political leaders under house arrest ?

Upon that, why did Modi/Shah/Nadda assure Indians that nobody is arrested ?

What are the advantages of abrogation ? As promised, did infiltration attempts reduce ? Terror/militant activities reduce ? Cross-Border firing stopped ?

BJP rule in India is a total failure. It's still running trial & error, even after completing six years of rule. Each and every scheme introduced is a failure but the man who assured the masses to 'give me sajaa' if the scheme doesn't work is roaming free. Latest to disprove is Farm Bills - harvesting is around the corner, just wait to see the seeds/grains rotting because farmers don't get any assistance in transporting their produce. Because each and every mode of transport will blackmail them resulting with end-rate of their produce showing similar to our GDP.

But for the majority supporters of Modi, NO, it is a rule by majority people, hence it got to be correct. Nothing can/is going wrong. Nobody will come on the roads protesting. Even if they have to starve.

    Jai ho....

That means govt brought in a unfriendly and hostile rule for the people of J&K but self serving for the govt. Going forward does the govt know what to expect and the repercussions??.????....Business will never be usual or like before in J&K and that's for sure. It's BJP made irreparable disaster.
