Mangaluru, Oct 14: Seeking dismissal from service of Prof Arabi, who has been facing the charge of inflicting sexual harassment on a girl student of the university, and former registrar of the university, Prof A M Khan for keeping the report on the case under wraps for two years, a protest was held in front of the administrative block at the university campus at Mangala Gangotri on Monday October 12. The protest was led by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Addressing the protesters, ABVP state assistant secretary, Sandesh Rai, said that two years back, the internal inquiry committee of the university, SPARSH (Sensitization, Prevention & Redress of Sexual Harassment) and had filed report on the allegation of sexual harassment and atrocity against economics professor Prof Arabi. It demanded the immediate dismissal of Prof A M khan, former registrar of the university, who had concealed the case for two years instead of sending the report of the committee to the women's commission. It also demanded legal action against Khan and warned that in case of failure, ABVP will fight against the university administration. A memorandum was also submitted to the vice chancellor Prof P S Yadapadithaya.

Speaking on the occasion, the vice chancellor said that discussions about the issue were held at the syndicate meeting and decision to take stringent action against the guilty was taken. He said that on Monday morning, notice seeking explanation from Prof A M Khan was issued and assured that steps will be taken against Prof Arabi on the basis of legal expert opinion.

ABVP convener Ashish Ajjibettu, organising secretary Basavesh, city assistant secretaries Nishan Alva and Shreyas Rai, Bantwal taluk convener Harishat Koila, state executive member Deepti Madival and many others took part. The police were present to supervise law and order.

Protesting against abuse of women/students/girl child is futile. Just see what happened to the Law Student in Shahjahanpur.

First protest about the reason for her to withdraw her complaint and impending/possible clean chit to Chinmayanand.

I think Mangalore should be our role model, not Shahajahanpur.
The name Shahjahan itself is another name for rapists who raped our country
