Mangaluru, Oct 15: Mangalore University registrar has provided clarification on behalf of the university about the contempt of court notice served by the state high court for failing to renew the affiliation of Bantwal Sri Venkataramana Swamy College for te year 2019-20.
"On the issue of continuing the affiliation of the said college, a local review committee had visited the college on March 5, 2019. It had recommended to continue the affiliation subject to setting right some defects. The college students' union had complained to the university about the continuance of the affiliation. To check the same, a committee chaired by a senior professor was formed on OCtober 5, 2019. The committee visited the college and listed out defects there. The committee had recommended to organize a conciliation meeting with everyone but college principal wrote to the university registrar on January 30, 2020 informing that it might be difficult to maintain law and order situation if such a meeting is held.
The college administration filed suit in the high court about the continuance of the affiliation for the year 2019-20. The high court, which heard the case, asked the university on September 14, 2020 to pass order as per law within two weeks. A letter was written to the college principal on September 21 to set right the defects observed in the college for giving affiliation. The principal submitted compliance report of the college on September 25.
After obtaining opinions of legal experts, with some conditions, the affiliation continuance notification was givnen to the college on October 1. Still, the college filed contempt of court petition in high court against the university, the registrar said in a release.
