National Capital Region Transport Corp allowed to use drone

New Delhi, Oct 16 (IANS): The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has been given conditional exemption for deployment of a remotely-piloted aircraft system for data acquisition for mapping and implementation of a web-based Geographical Information System platform for Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).

The permission was granted by the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Joint Secretary, Civil Aviation, Amber Dubey, said: "This will help them in effective aerial surveillance and project planning."

The granting of these approvals is in line with the MoCA's objective of promoting use of drones for mass benefit, he added.

The conditional exemption is until December 31, 2020 or until the full operationalisation of the Digital Sky Platform, whichever is earlier.
