New Delhi, Oct 17 (IANS): A few persons holding a protest outside Model Town police station of north-west Delhi regarding the alleged suicide of a 17-year-old girl maid were detained and booked for violating law, police said on Saturday.

The protesters were booked for violation of the Delhi Disaster Management Act, Epidemic Diseases Act and the IPC.

A journalist from a Delhi-based magazine accused a senior police officer of assaulting him after forcibly taking him inside the police station. He said that he was beaten up, despite telling the police that he was a media person and was covering the protest. He also posted pictures on Twitter to show his injuries.

"On Friday, some protestors staged a 'dharna' outside Model Town police station to put undue pressure on police and tried to give the incident a different colour. Despite explanation of the facts of the case and repeated warnings to disperse, a few protesters remained adamant and were booked," DCP North West Vijayanta Arya said.

Police said that on October 4, suicide by hanging by the girl maid was reported in Model Town. The police, PCR and Fire Services staff reached the spot and broke open the room door found locked from inside.

Deceased girl, a resident of Rajpura Gur Mandi in Delhi, was allegedly found hanging from the ceiling with the help of a bed sheet. Police claimed that post-mortem findings concluded it to be suicide and that tehre were no injury marks on the body. Inquest proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC were initiated

"Ahan Penkar, who was also protesting among the protestors, was also detained but subsequently released. He later claimed he was a press person and alleged misbehaviour," the officer said.
