Recoveries up, new coronavirus cases down in Karnataka


Bengaluru, Oct 20 (IANS): Maintaining an upward trend, 8,005 patients recovered while new Covid cases moderated to 5,018 across Karnataka in the last 24 hours.

"With 8,005 patients discharged on Sunday, 6,53,382 recovered so far from across the southern state, while 5,018 fresh cases rose the Covid-s19 tally to 7,70,604, including 1,06,214 active cases," said the state health bulletin on Monday.

Covid-induced death also declined to 64 on a single day, taking its toll to 10,542 till date since March 8 when the pandemic broke in the southern state.

Bengaluru registered 2,481 fresh cases, taking its Covid tally to 3,10,021, including 64,536 active cases.

With 2,363 discharged on a day, recoveries in the city rose to 2,41,942, while 17 succumbed to the infection, taking the city's death toll to 3,547 so far.

Of the 932 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs) in the state hospitals, 364 are in Bengaluru, followed by Dharwad and Ballari 67, Hassan 44 and Chamarajanagar 43.

Out of the total tests, 12,767 were through Rapid Antigen detection and 65,814 through RT-PCR.

"Positivity rate has also declined to 6.38 per cent while the case fatality rate rose to 1.27 per cent," added the bulletin.
