Udupi, Oct 10: “The orders of Karnataka BJP government that those who rear cattle should obtain mandatory permission from the environment department should be withdrawn immediately,” urged Alevoor Harish Kini, Congress leader and director of Udupi district cooperative union, milk producer’s block.
In a letter written to the chief minister, he stated that the decision of the BJP government amounts to hitting on the stomach of those who depend on dairy farming for their living. “The orders if implemented will provide opportunities for large-scale corruption. It is like taking the first step towards providing facilities for corporate dairy farming. Therefore action should be taken by means of an amendment to the proposal so that the poor dairy farmers in the villages are able to lead a life of self-respect,” urged Harish Kini.
