Mangaluru, Oct 21: Mangaluru city police commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada district police observed 'Martyrs' Day' here at district Armed Reserve Police premises on Wednesday October 21, to commemorate the sacrifices of police personnel who lost their lives on duty.

Addressing the gathering, IGP western range Devajyothi Ray said, "The police force is always at the forefront in the prevention and controlling of the deadly corona pandemic. Police should continue doing their work by taking all kinds of precautionary measures. There has been no casualty of police personnel due to the pandemic in the Western Range that is districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Uttar Kannada."

IGP Devajyothi Ray along with police commissioner Vikash Kumar, superintendent of police B M Laxmi Prasad, and deputy inspector general (Coast Guard) S B Venkatesh paid homage to the memorial.

The names of 264 police personnel, which includes 17 from Karnataka who laid down their lives in the past one year were read out by the superintendent of police B M Laxmi Prasad.
