Mangaluru, Oct 21: Exorcising a ghost that is deemed to have taken over control of the body of a person has of late been treated as superstition although it was common in the past. A video clip in which a youth can be seen being thrashed inhumanly in the name of expelling the spirit that was believed to have possessed his body has become viral.

In this case, the 'spirit' which possessed the youth claims itself to be 'Brahmarakshasa', believed to be a very powerful form of spirit. A person who claims himself to be the exorcist can be seen using filthy language at the youth. He also is seen encouraging the relatives of the youth to hit him repeatedly with a cane. He is also seen placing a piece of camphor on the palm of the youth and then lighting it. The video also contains the scene of the brothers engaged in a fight.

All along this 15-minute video there are glimpses of things which seem to support superstition. Many have voiced their anger about this in social media. But there is no information when and where this incident happened and whether it is recent. As the conversations are in Tulu, it is believed to have happened in Dakshina Kannada or Udupi district.
