Byndoor, Oct 22: Arishina Kunkuma, a traditional ritual, on account of Sharannavaratri was held at the Rotary auditorium, here, by Byndoor Block Mahila Congress committee, under the leadership of president Gauri Devadiga.
Gauri Devadiga began the ritual by applying Arishina Kunkuma to Geeta Wagle, president of Udupi district Mahila Congress. District Mahila Congress vice president Jyoti Hebbar shared information on the importance of the programme with the gathering.
Laxmi Devadiga, who won the gram panchayat elections for four consecutive terms and two women who work as civic labourers were felicitated on the occasion.
Gauri Devadiga did the introductory speech. Manjula Devadiga rendered the vote of thanks. Gopal Poojary, former MLA, Madan Kumar, block Congress president, Shekhar Poojary, Youth Congress president, Veronica Cornelio, KPCC panelist, Dr Sunita Shetty, Roshini Oliver, RGPRS convener, Greeshma Bhide, Pramila Devadiga, Shashikala Devadiga, Suryakanti, member of Udupi district Congress committee and Nagamma were on the dais.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions that were organized for the women. The birthday of senior Congress leader Raju Poojary was also celebrated on the occasion by cutting a cake. Block chief secretary Shanti Pereira compered the programme.
