Economic growth in FY21 may be negative: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that India's economic growth in the current financial year may be in the negative zone or near zero amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking at the India Energy Forum of CERAWeek, Sitharaman, however, noted that signs of revival are visible now and India would be among the fastest growing nations in the next fiscal.

She added that the festive season will further spur the economy which may lead to positive growth in the third and fourth quarters of the current financial year.

The Finance Minister said that the focus of the government is on public spending to boost economic activity.

Earlier this month, she had said that another round of stimulus for the economy is not off the table.

Thank God this female has got up from her slumber sleep, till the other day she and her entire cabinet ministers and BJP party on whole were denying that the economy and GDP had slowed down and was going in negative, this trend of GDP going to negative started from 2019 end. Had she and government accepted the experts advice and taken corrective measures there could have been some improvement but ego took better of her and brought the country to this situation.

Modi / BJP needs to be defeated in 2024 otherwise everyone will suffer and in all probability, we may be deprived of accessing our own Bank Accounts.

Modi's area of expertise is Hindu-Muslim & Pakistan, whereas ordinary Indian needs Jobs, Infrastructure, Health care, better education facility and Farmers rights.

Indian economy was in its worst even before the start of 2020. DeMo, implementation was collossal disastrous, it is now apparent that it was only cooked to win UP elections in favor of BJP rather than any meaningful economic reform. GST is yet another monumental failure. Modi govt has shown no remorse or amends to pitiful state of economy it has got the country into.

Covid fight by Modi Govt. just added another tamasha of event management. When it was required alertness, ignored it. When it is required planning, bragged we know how to handle it, when it moved to desperate level, action did came through but it put crores of migrants into horrible human misery. Now, that it is spread out, there is no control.

During March-April, when Covid-19 started at its peak in India, immediately IFM & Standard & Poor, predicted especially on India that 2020-2021, India's GDP will be -23% (Negative 23%). It's only due to lack of Administrative skills, lack of economic knowledge, lack, and inexperience on Financial matters, Religious Fanatic mindset, divide & rule policy, lack & totally inexperience on foreign policy, lack of basic education and knowledge of ministers, etc.

Now at last our totally utterly failed and inexperienced FM (she is basically an elementary / LKG teacher somewhere in AP / Telangana) telling the truth of IFM & Standard & Poor Rating Institution.

    "अंधेर नगरी चौपट राजा......" I N D I A is very badly and unlucky suffering one of worst PM's failed, drastic destructive policies.

    Sunil,

Indian economy was -3% in Dec. 2019. Yes, 2019 but this cow government kept giving manipulated reports to mislead us Indians. How can it crash to -23 within 3 months of Covid-19 ? Can you explain ?

BJP mislead the masses to keep their train chugging. It never climbed above 8.5% that Congress handed them over in May 2014 but started sliding downward soon after BJP took over.

Sunil, you seem to be mislead. India's tax to gdp ratio is 10.3 percent. Which means taxes contribute only 10 pc to our gdp. Gdp is calculated by adding exports plus domestic transactions minus imports. Dip in gdp shows that domestic businesses have suffered major loss. BJP government is nationalist in nature, it won’t give freebies at tax payers cost. It brought lot of tough reforms to make countries fundamentals strong. Reforms like DEMO,GST, RERA affected GDP growth,Because black money gone out from circulation, but long term our prospects high.
