Mangaluru Oct 29: Facebook users have to be alert as there are instances where Facebook accounts are hacked for monetary reasons.

In a similar instance, a fake Facebook account in the name of Aloysius D'Souza who is the headmaster of Rosario High School was created. The scammers then used Facebook messenger to reach out to Aloysius' friends so as to trick them into shelling out money.

There are several instances where fake accounts are being created and the friends in the contact list are tricked into paying money. The cases of creating fake accounts are active and people are urged to be alert and not fall prey to these types of scams.

Speaking to Daijiworld.com Aloysius D'Souza said, "A fake account was created in my name with my profile picture in it and messages were sent to my friends asking for Rs 15,000. The message also stressed that I needed the money urgently and would return it by evening 5 pm. Luckily some of my friends checked with me about the message that was sent to them through the fake account. As I was the headmaster, some of my old students sent the money and I have proof of it."

"Later I alerted all my friends. People need to be alert whenever someone demands money and it is better to confirm with the person directly in whose name the scam is being carried out," said Aloysius D'Souza.
