Mangalore: Bishop Ordains Four Capuchin Deacons as Priests

Mangalore, Apr 30: Four Capuchin deacons were ordained priests by the Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza during the solemn Eucharistic celebration held at Our Lady of Pompei Church, Gurpur, on Thursday April 29.
The celebration was solemnized with the participation of Fr Vincent Furtado, provincial, Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka, Fr Anil Sequeira, rector, Dharshan Institute of Theology, Bangalore, Fr Michael Pais, delegate, St Fidelis Province North India, and a number priests, religious, and the laity.
The newly ordained priests are Fr. Baptist Rohan Miranda of Gurpur; Fr Vincent D’Souza of Mogarnad, Fr Manoj Victor D’Souza of Alangar, and Fr Dancy Martis of Moodbelle.
During the homily, the Bishop stressed the greatness of St Francis of Assisi as a mirror of Christ and invited the new priests to emulate their founder. The Bishop also gave a call to the faithful to encourage their children to heed the divine call for priesthood and continue the mission of Jesus.
Under the leadership of the Bishop, Fr Paul Rego, parish priest, Our Lady Pompei Church and the co-operation of parishioners, the celebration was meaningful and solemn. The Capuchins and the local religious sisters contributed a lot to make this celebration a great success.
After the Eucharistic celebration there was a felicitation for the newly ordained priests which began with a beautiful prayer dance by the Rosa Mistica D.Ed students.
Fr Victor D’Mello who raised the toast gave a powerful message to the gathering and the programme concluded with a delicious meal for all the participants.
