Oppn indulged in scaremongering on CAA, Art 370: Modi

Bagha (Bihar), Nov 1 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused certain opposition parties of "scaremongering" on the issues of Citizenship (Amendment) Act and abolition of Article 370 of the Constitution, apart from the Ram Temple issue.

"When the CAA came, they (opposition) spread the lie that the citizenship of many people will be taken away. Today, about a year has passed. Has any Indian lost his citizenship? They have always proved their selfishness by just lying or scaremongering," the Prime Minister alleged at a public rally at Bagha in Bihar's West Champaran district to woo the voters ahead of the second phase of Bihar Assembly elections.

He said that the opposition similarly indulged in scaremongering over the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, while pointing out to alleged statements about "river of blood" in this connection.

"Today, with the cooperation of people in the entire country, a grand Ram temple is coming up in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. But, you must not forget those who were questioning the very existence of Lord Ram," Modi said.

He also accused the opposition of "spreading the lie" that the National Democratic Alliance will abolish reservation for Scheudled Castes and Tribes. "But you know that our government has taken forward reservation for 10 more years," he added.

He again brought up the issue of 'jungle raj' during the RJD rule, claiming that Bihar residents during those days used to scratch their new cars or refused to decorate houses on the outside due to fears of snatchings and looting.

"People themselves scratched new vehicles before exiting automobile showrooms. Quite often, they used to put a dent in their own car while it was still parked in the showrooms," the Prime Minister claimed.

He said that people in the past had to cough up double the extortion amount demanded if they dared to complain about it to police.

The Prime Minister also talked about education of tribal youths, museums for tribal figures, among other issues. He specifically reached out to the Tharu community during his speech.

Modi urged the electorate to vote for NDA candidates in the second phase of the Bihar elections on November 3, apart from all Assembly bypolls in different states.

It is obvious the verdict on CAA and abrogation of Article 370 is not in. If CAA and Article 370 were failures Modi would find somebody else to blame.

The CAA by itself was concerned with granting citizenship for individuals of neighboring countries based on an intelligible differentia. It would never remove citizenship for the existing citizens. It seems to me that all the furore about CAA was unfounded. Honestly, I do not know how it plays with the NPR and the NRC. The CAA was a good law as it showed India was welcoming individuals who are persecuted for their minority faith in neighboring countries.

I do not know if the abrogation of Article 370 was the need of the hour. But the way it descended was appalling. Politicians were arrested for a year. Dissent was silenced. No availability of 4G. Its implementation was draconian: we must remember that Kashmiris are also Indians, and the unfair treatment was uncalled for. It is also sad to see people saying that those who wanted the Art. 370 retained in Constitution are anti-nationals. The Art.370 had been in the Constitution for a very long time, perhaps even before you were born.

That entire furor about CAA was solely meant to create chaos in the country, following the failure of uproar against Art.370 and 3ple Talak. CAA is being implemented and many persecuted refugees from three neighbouring countries have been granted citizenship upon completing 5 years of continuous stay in India. Those from the majority community do not enter the country as refugees. Yet they are not denied citizenship, but are granted under Citizenship Act of 1955, in which they have to complete a total of 11 years (not continuous) stay in India. During the course they are free to return to their country or any other country and come back again to India. CAA has been enacted on humanitarian grounds for the sole benefit of persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries and has nothing to do with the existing citizens of the country. Parties which oppose CAA are those which rely heavily on vote banks for their survival and people know well about it.

Stop bickering. CAA/NRC and Abrogation of Art. 370 has made a bigger crevice in society than the harmony that is supposed to exist.

Both you and Amit Shah said CAA, NPR and NRCwill be postpond till next year 2021 for its implementation. So, why are fooling and misguiding people???????.........
Have you allowed any independent journalists, opposition leaders and despersed Kashmiri pandits to visit J&K since abrogation of article 370??????....
Idea of building Ram temple over Babri masjid was a one sided hostile decision by unpopular and controversial order by SC influenced by the ruling govt.
For your every rhetoric statement there are 100 befitting reply, proved and valid with no concoction.
