Cyclone Arnab to hit Andhra coast on Oct 28, Maharashtra may see rain

Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai

Mumbai, Oct 26: Cyclone Arnab, which has developed over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam by the forenoon of October 28, with wind speeds reaching 115–125 kmph and gusts up to 140 kmph, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system may also influence weather conditions in several states, including Maharashtra.

The cyclone is forecast to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday night and further strengthen into a very severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas of southern Odisha are likely to experience strong winds and heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

Although Maharashtra is not expected to face a direct impact from the cyclone, the weather system could influence rainfall in parts of the state. According to the information provided in the report, the system is expected to move across eastern Vidarbha and adjoining regions between October 28 and 29.

Several parts of Vidarbha may receive light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday, with heavier showers at isolated places. Some areas could experience heavy rainfall on Thursday, prompting the possibility of weather alerts in affected districts.

Despite the likelihood of rain in some regions, hot conditions are expected to continue across much of Maharashtra. The IMD forecast cited in the report indicates that maximum temperatures in the Konkan region could rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next three days. Dry air is also likely to contribute to discomfort due to heat.

On Sunday, thunderstorms and rain were reported in parts of Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts. Light to moderate showers were also recorded in some areas of Nashik and Kolhapur districts in western Maharashtra.

Authorities are monitoring the developing weather system, while residents in affected areas are advised to follow the latest IMD forecasts and local advisories as the cyclone approaches the eastern coast.
