Daiji Dubai Felicitates H R Alva, Concepta Fernandes

Dubai, May 2: ‘Daiji Dubai’, the forum of Konkani writers in the UAE, felicitated Konkani writers H R Alva and Concepta Fernandes on Friday April 30 at Winny's Restaurant, Karama, Dubai.

Alva, proprietor, Maria Advertisers, was the editor of ‘Amcho Yuvak’ and was a popular Christian youth leader in the ‘80s.  His wife Concepta Fernandes is also a popular Konkani personality and is an executive with All India Radio, Mangalore.  The couple were on a tour of Dubai along with their family.

Welcoming the guests, Stan Ageira, president, Daiji Dubai, recalled his association with Alva.  

“He was the first youth leader from outside Mangalore city to get elected for the presidentship of the Catholic Youth Movement”, he said.  

Dayan D’Souza introduced Alva and Fernandes to the gathering.  Melvyn Rodrigues presided over the function.

The couple answered questions put forth by the Daiji Dubai members. ‘Vozram’, a collection of poems, by renowned writer Austin D’Souza Prabhu, which was published recently by Alva himself was made available for sale in Dubai on the occasion.

Vincy Pinto Angelore compered the programme.  Melvyn Rodrigues and Stan Ageira felicitated the couple and Francis Fernandes Cascia gave gift hampers to Hira and Harsha, the couple’s children.
