Daijiworld Media Network - Madikeri (SP)

Madikeri, Nov 3: Two people riding a motorbike who tried to take photos of a domesticated elephant near the Mattogodu elephant camp on the state highway near Gonikoppal escaped with life by a whisker. At the last moment, they left their motorbike and fled, thus saving themselves from the animal's fury.

The two riders were moving towards Anechowkur from the direction of Titimati when they found an elephant standing by te roadside. They tried to take a few photos of the animal. The elephant got angry and suddenly turned towards the riders. The riders, sensing danger ran away and saved themselves. The elephant turned its ire at the motorbike and thoroughly damaged the two-wheeler. The mahouts came there, removed the bike and led the elephant away after which traffic movement resumed.

Range forest officer of the camp, Kiran Kumar, expressed his unhappiness about the people who fail to adhere to the advice not to meddle with elephants that are grazing.
