Mangaluru, Nov 3: Indian Cancer Society, a-non-profit organisation, in collaboration with the Government of Karnataka and Oracle, have launched free tele-consultation helpline service to help cancer patients.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, Kanchan Bannerjee, honourary secretary of Indian Cancer Society said, "Mainly, Indian Cancer Society works to create awareness, detection, providing cure and treatment for cancer patients in India. Also, the organisation holds various awareness programmes among students, organisations and the community, in promoting cancer awareness and creating knowledge in the early detection and prevention of cancer."
"Free tele-consultation helpline service was launched to help many cancer patients during Covid-19 pandemic, in finding them to reach healthcare centres, doctors and to provide counselling to their family members during the time of distress. Indian Cancer Society has a panel of general physicians as well as Oncologists in different specialities to assists the patients," she said.
Latha, medical social worker for the NGO informed, "Free tele-consultation helpline service was launched two months ago to serve the needy cancer patients. The helpline center had received over 30 calls from past months for consultation and other queries pertaining to cancer."
NGO has also signed MoU with prominent hospitals in Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Gulburga to help the cancer patients.
The helpline functions from Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.

How does this helpline work?
When the patient or caretaker calls the helpline number, doctors (Oncologist) talk to the patient to analyse their needs. Next the patient is asked to upload the report and medical history, based on this patient can interact with the doctor through audio or video. Then doctors will give advice and prescription of the medicine through the Helpline. Callers do not have to download any app because it operates even on a basic phone model.
