Mangaluru, Nov 4: Condemning the BJP-led union government's move of awarding the management of Mangaluru International Airport to Adani Group, district Congress committee spokesperson Mohammed Badagannur said that the undivided Dakshina Kannada district is facing a major challenge due to anti-people policies of the union government.

Speaking during a press meet at Congress office, he said, "The BJP-led union government's move to hand over the Mangaluru International Airport to Adani Group to start commercial operations and the decision on merger of Vijaya Bank has deteriorated the identity of the district.”

He alleged that the union government has indirectly sold Mangaluru Airport to Germany by handing over the same to Adani Group.

"Several international and national tourists would face burden of taxation due to this move. Efforts are on to privatise Mangaluru port too," he added.

"Our MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has failed to raise voice to preserve culture of this land. Instead, he is involved only in giving speeches and he is not concerned about the people," he said.

Commenting on Nalin Kumar Kateel's promise that sand will be made available for Rs 2,000 per load, Mohammed said that Nalin Kumar is playing with the life of people. The condition of National Highway in the district has completely deteriorated and it is in pathetic condition. BJP's administration has completely failed in the district.

Taking a dig at district In-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, Mohammed Badagannur questioned, "Is there any use of a district in-charge minister for the district? Being a district in-charge minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary has failed to hold review meeting in the taluks of the district. There is no development. Being a district In-charge minister, he has no voice.”

He also said that the BJP's administration has failed to prevent several untoward incidents that took place in the district. If the same situation continues, in upcoming days, Congress along with people will hold agitation against the failure of government, he said.

Speaking regarding the cancellation of Tulu international seminar, which was jointly organised by Mangalore University, Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Tulu Adhyayana Peetha, University Evening College PG department of Tulu, Namma Tulunad Trust and Tuluworld Kudla, on account of Kannada Rajyotsava at Mangalore University, recently, spokesperson Abhishek Ullal said, "After JNU retired professor Dr Purushotham Bilimale was invited for the seminar, why it was cancelled? ABVP should raise voice against this and should speak out why the seminar was cancelled after a Syndicate member opposed this.”

He said that JNU retired professor Dr Purushotham Bilimale was invited to his programme. He alleged that vice chancellor has no voice to speak against this.

Nirajchandra Pal, district Congress general secretary, Prem Ballal Bhag, secretary, Vasanth and others were present.

Instead of lifting the less fortunate districts to the level of South Kanara, Govt has brought it down to the level of the more backward districts of the state. There is perhaps no stopping on the slide to the level of UP!

Congress is very much present and it will be around irrespective of its victory and defeats. You must grow a spine and question PM Modi who is behaving like Ambani's and Adani's personal secretary. You favorite PM lacks the courage to even name CHINA in his speeches and goes on to deny any invasion while we have already lost 1000 square kilometers of our territory.

Dare to question him about our Economy which he has single-handedly ruined?

First you restore the identity of your party , before you point fingers at others administration. Congres party is literally non-existent today. Occassionally we have Yuvaraj bash Modi after a 3 month sabbatical. The Mangalore Yuvaraj is more worried about the UP CM. Unless and otherwise you perform nobody is going to vote for you. Ask yourself ' Besides weekly press conferences, What have we done?'' .

The country is paying a very heavy price for the acts of commission and Omission of the BJP rule for the last six years. High time we opt for a change not only in Karnataka but for our Beloved Country as well.

I agree the admin. is detroid in BJP rule. Yes our DK is become no1 in corruption
But the airport giving Adani I think this is not wrong because there will be lots of changes. Already we have lost 40% traffic due to Kannur airport
Air India was not giving rites for any international flights to land .Air was selfish when Mangalore Aitportbwas under thier control.
Now I hope Adani will.allow more international connections & allow international airlines like Fly Dubai, Oman Air, Air Arabia, etc.. to land
