Bengaluru, Nov 6: The state high court, on Thursday, November 5, wondered aloud why no steps are being taken against the politicians found flouting the rules relating to masks, whereas common people who are caught without mass are fined Rs 250.

The high court took the state government to task for whiling away time without taking action against the dignitaries found violating Covid rules. It wanted to know whether laws are meant only for the common people.

A set of public interest litigation filed by Lets Kidz organization was heard by a bench headed by Chief Justice A S Oka on Thursday. The bench expressed deep anguish at the failure of the government to act against cases where violation of rules was observed. It said that photo evidence clearly shows that dignitaries and politicians have been violating rules with impunity. It wanted to know why no action has been taken against the violators and accused the government of trying to do an eyewash.

"What kind of message are you giving to society? Why no FIRs are registered against the violators? Instead of filing the first information report under the Disaster Management Act, why the non-cognizable report has been lodged," the high court wanted to know.
