Ranjitha to Sue Google, YouTube

Chennai, May 4: Tamil actress Ranjitha, who allegedly featured in the controversial video tape with Swamy Nithyananda is filing a criminal case against Internet search and video giants Google and YouTube after they refused to scrap the sleazy video tape and clippings from their website.

Ranjitha had sent a legal notice to Google and YouTube last week asking to delete the videotape from their websites immediately. On Tuesday their lawyer, Sajjan Poovayya of Poovayya & Company, wrote back to Ranjitha’s lawyer Prashant Mendiratta stating that his clients (Google and YouTube) did not create the videotapes and were only “intermediary service providers” and not responsible for what’s being posted on their websites.

“The lawyer said that the volume of content (the videotape in question) uploaded on YouTube is so huge that it is impossible to take all of it out. He stated that the search terms listed by us were generic and that we should provide them with each link and the URL of the website on which the videotape is hosted. He also added that his clients and their servers are based in the US and follow the American guidelines,”said Mendiratta.

He added that Ranjitha will now file a criminal case against Google and YouTube for selling obscene and objectionable material and defamation under the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act before the Delhi police.
