Mangaluru, Nov 7: Subhash Shetty and Sathish Anchan of the BJP were elected respectively as the president and vice president of Mulki town panchayat. The election was conducted on Friday November 6.

The town panchayat has a strength of 18 members. Eight of them are from the BJP. The Congress has nine members. But the Congress failed to field a candidate for the post of the president as they do not have members conforming to the reservation criterion fixed by the government. BJP's Subhash Shetty got elected unanimously.

In the election held for the post of the vice president Sathish Anchan got elected as he polled ten votes including that of the MLA and the MP. Congress candidate, Puthu Bava, who got nine votes, had to taste defeat. The lone JD(S) lady member remained away from the election process.
