Mangaluru, Nov 6: A case has been filed on Friday against a cop of Bajpe police station for allegedly beating a minor girl in front of her father inside a police station.
The complaint by the minor girl's father has been registered at the women’s police station, Mangaluru. The complaint stated that the father-daughter duo was called by the police for an enquiry regarding a harassment case filed by the girl against a boy. Instead of questioning the boy, the woman cop reportedly thrashed the girl causing major injuries on her body. The girl was then admitted to Wenlock Hospital for treatment.
As per the father of the minor, the girl and boy became acquainted in May last year. Thereafter, he was constantly harassing the girl and forcing her to marry him. When the girl's parents turned down the proposal stating that the girl is a minor, the boy began threatening the family. Following which, the girl and her father filed a complaint against the boy at Bajpe police station.
According to police, based on the complaint of minors, both girl and boy who know each other very well, were called to the station for enquiry. The police tried to convince both to end the relationship and explained the aftermath when one is minor. The lady police separately counselled the girl and explained her rules and regulations. The girl's father also permitted the police to make the boy understand. Meanwhile, the girl's father repeatedly demanded to register a POCSO case against the boy. The police also promised the girl and her father that they would take strict action against the boy if he continued his contact with the girl. But after leaving the police station, the girl’s father cooked up an assault story and admitted his daughter in the hospital.
Meanwhile, a group of representatives and community leaders met the police commissioner Vikas Kumar and urged action against the police who misbehaved with the girl in the police station. After meeting the police commissioner, former MLA J R Lobo said, “We are not interfering in the investigation of a complaint which was filed at Bajpe police station by a minor and her family. The police are free to investigate in their own style. But we condemned the assault on minors in the police station and demand strict action against the cops who were involved in this. The assault gives a wrong message to the society that a complainant got assaulted in a police station where he or she should get protection. The police commissioner has assured us action and we have faith on the law of this land.
Along with J R Lobo, Ivan D’Souza, former MLC, Shalet Pinto, district president, Mahila Congress, A C Vinayraj, corporator, Rolphy D’Costa, president, Catholic Sabha, Roy Castelino, PRO, Mangalore diocese, Stany Alvares and other leaders were present.
