Mangalore: Seventh Annual Convocation of NIT – K Suratkal Held

Mangalore, May 5: “With the growing human population and globalization, new challenges are ahead of technologists,” said Governer H R Bhardwaj.
He was delivering his convocation address at the seventh annual convocation of NIT – K, Suratkal here on Wednesday May 5. “There is a need to redefine, restructure and reorganize our technical and engineering systems and organizations so as to secure the precious natural resources of the country and ensure their sustainable utilization,” he said.
Bhardwaj while accepting that the major role of engineers is to apply scientific knowlege for providing infrastructural facilities, called on to focus on issues such as efficient use of resources, conservation and protection of environment, sustainable development and ensuring safety, health and welfare of the common man while designing infrastructural systems.
“The nation has made an investment in you, and now it is time for you to deliver. Become entrepreneurs and contribute to society by creating jobs and wealth for your fellow citizens, he said adding that sincere and committed efforts of capable engineers like you, the brand name `engineered in India' will achieve global recognition and fame.
Bhardwaj honoured the gold medalists and prize winners.
Prof Goverdhan Mehta, chairman of board of directors, NITK presided. Prof Sandeep Sancheti, director of NITK welcomed and presented institution report. Prof Mehta and Prof Sancheti also distributed the certificates to graduates and PhDs.
