Mangaluru, Nov 9: In view of the sesquicentennial celebration of the foundation of the Apostolic Carmel congregation, a seminar on Apostolic Carmel Educators and on the life of Venerable Mother Veronica was conducted on November 7 for the teachers.
Sr Pearl Ann AC, a member of the Apostolic Carmel Spirituality Centre, Maryhill was the resource person. Her selfless services and goodwill in dealing with the youth of today are highly appreciated.
The day began with a formal prayer service conducted by Sr Sweedal AC followed by the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest along with the principal, Sr Maria Gracilda AC, the vice- principal Sr Meera AC, the co-ordinator, Sr Sweedal AC and teacher Gracilda Pereira. Teacher Janet compered the programme. Sr Maria Gracilda AC welcomed and introduced the chief guest. Sr Pearl Ann AC gave a magnificent insight into the qualities a teacher should acquire as a ‘Carmel Educator’.
The session began by rejuvenating the teachers through various activities wherein the teachers were asked to express their feelings. She stressed the need to listen effectively. Real listening helps to communicate with respect. As listening is the most neglected art of our times, she suggested that when there is listening with full attention, communication takes place with respect. A person's feelings are conveyed by listening completely and attentively. Through various activities, she made the teachers aware that learning takes place when there is effective communication from students and teachers. Through a questionnaire on ideas about listening, Sr Pearl Ann AC expressed that as an AC Educator's real education should be produced from the heart.
In a short glimpse, she also gave an insight into the life of Venerable Mother Veronica and her courageous journey in establishing the Apostolic Carmel Congregation. It was indeed an opportunity for the teachers to learn more about the Apostolic Carmel Congregation and carry with them the teachings of their foundress as Carmel Educators.
On behalf of the principal and the staff, teacher Daphne D'Souza rendered her gratitude for the delightful session. The valuable guidance given by Sr Pearl Ann AC will forever linger in the hearts of the teachers.
